4 Things to Do With Kids in London in November

Alexandra Palace Fireworks Festival 1 – 2 November

The start of November means Fireworks Night, and there’ll be plenty of fantastic displays all over the city, providing a fun night out for kids of all ages. But for one of the biggest and best events in London, it’s worth heading up north to the iconic Ally Pally, where you can dive into a weekend-long fireworks extravaganza.

Alongside the main pyrotechnic event, the Palace will also have a funfair, featuring a variety of rides suitable for all ages, from gentle teacups and mini Ferris wheels to more daring rides for older thrill-seekers. To get to Alexandra Palace from the Hyde Park Hotel, you’ll need to head up to North London. It’s easiest to get a taxi or Tube and bus, with regular bus services available from Finsbury Park station.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland 21 November – 5 January 

One of the best attractions for children in London this November has to be the incredible Winter Wonderland event at Hyde Park. A celebration of all things festive, you can find a huge variety of activities on offer, ensuring that children are never left feeling bored or disappointed.

You can take your pick from some spectacular live performances, from impressive circus acts with breath-taking performances, to adorable shows tailored for younger visitors, including Paddington On Ice, featuring the famous bear, and a hilarious Mr Men and Little Miss show, bringing the famous children’s books characters to life on the big stage.

You’ll also be able to get your skates on, at the UK’s largest outdoor ice rink, with live music from the bandstand to accompany your moves. Skate by day in the crisp winter air, or enjoy the magical experience of gliding beneath the stars and spectacular lights after dark.

Little ones can also get to experience the magic of Christmas, in Santa Land, with an Ice Slide ride, as well as a grotto where they’ll get to meet and greet Santa and his helpers. Older kids meanwhile, might want to skip Santa for the fairground rides instead, where you’ll find a brilliant selection of rollercoasters, VR rides and all the classic funfair favourites. If you’re not ready to get into the festive spirit just yet but still want a fun family activity to enjoy with kids in London, head to the Museum of London Docklands, where the Clangers will be celebrating their 50th anniversary.

Along with the award-winning group, Big Little Fish, the Clangers will be celebrating their birthday with a unique dance party where adults and little ones can enjoy a great dance-off, as well as learn more about taking eco-friendly actions. It’s a great way to learn more about practical things you can do at every age to reduce waste and encourage more environmentally friendly habits, as well as having a fun time out.

There will be plenty of fun stimulation for children to enjoy, from balloons and confetti to bubble machines and music, as well as a licensed bar for adults to enjoy a drink too.

Matilda the Musical

A West End musical is always a great way to entertain kids when you’re visiting London, and this childhood classic is a perennial crowd pleaser. Bringing the Roald Dahl book to life with fantastic songs by Tim Minchin, this hilarious show about the gifted school girl and her bullying headmistress is an award-winning masterpiece.

While the show is hugely enjoyed by children, kids under 5 are not permitted to enter, and anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, making it an ideal activity when you can enjoy it together. The show will be running all through November, and it’s usually best to book tickets in advance of your visit to ensure you can get the best value tickets.
