As one of the most well known and centrally located parks in London, it is probably little surprise that Hyde Park is also often the home of many exciting events throughout the year. From music performances to activity days, seasonal celebrations to sporting challenges, there is plenty to draw in visitors and locals each and every month. Whether you are looking for a particular event to attend or just wondering whether there is anything happening during an existing visit to London, read on for some of our favourite events:-
Aimed at children aged 8-11 years there are a number of Nature Explorer events held at Hyde Park throughout the year including ‘Winter Art’ and ‘Wild Photography’. These events allow children the chance to get up close with nature as well as learning new skills. These are whole day events meaning you could go and do some exploring of your own whilst your children were kept interested and occupied. For younger children the park also holds ‘Discovery Days’ where children can engage in activities such as pond dipping and catching mini beasts.
The Sunset Safaris usually take place during the warmer months and are family events; learn about the wildlife which makes its home in Hyde Park whilst you snuggle up around the campfire in the private gardens before heading out to listen to the bats which descend once the sun has set. Using bat detectors, and accompanied by a bat expert, you can learn to hear the bats secret calls and find out which species can be found in the park. If you have booked into the Shaftesbury Hyde Park International then this is perfect as you are just a short walk from your hotel afterwards.
BBC Proms in the Park
A very popular event which takes place in early September is the final night of the BBC Proms in the Park. Previous years have seen acts such as Michael Ball, Rick Astley, Tim Minchin and many more perform and it is a spectacular finish to the two month musical event which takes place at venues all across London. It’s the perfect time to hunt out one of the London Hotels special offers and attend a world-class performance.
Without a doubt one of the most popular events which takes place in Hyde Park is the Winter Wonderland. See the park transformed with fairground rides, ice sculptures, and ice-skating rink, wooden cabins and so much more. 2016 will see the Winter Wonderland celebrate its 10th year and it is set to be the best year yet.
Alongside these popular events there are also regular walking tours which take place, summer music festivals including the likes of Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time in Hyde Park and BBC Radio 2 Live. There is event a swimming festival which now takes place in September, over 2 days where around 6,000 swimmers will have the chance to swim one mile in the Serpentine Lake.
